The island's Cannonau based wines have become sought after since a daytime TV host suggested that perhaps drinking Cannonau contributed to the islanders' longevity. We make no such health claims but we do enjoy the flavors of Cannonau which turns out to be Grenache (Garnacha). Argiolas Costera is composed of 90% Cannonau, 5% Bovale Sardo and 5% Carignano (Carignan) grown on the calcareous soils of the Costera vineyard.

Dettori takes pride that they use no synthetic chemicals in the vineyard, nor do they make additions and "corrections" to the wine apart from minimal additions of sulfites as needed (no SO2 is added to the must, though, so that the native yeast can do their job). Unfiltered, unfined, and and aged in cement, not oak. The winemakers suggest pouring the wine and giving it time to "breathe." Their philosophy about wines can be summed up as: "They are what they are, not what you make them."
Dettori's Tuderi is a soft, full-bodied wine that's warming and sweetly-fruited, without much skin extract (it's a type of Grenache, which loves sunny, mediterranean climates). It's also a great food partner that excels with thick red sauces, meats, and pasta. It also pairs perfectly with the local goat's milk cheese, Pantaleo, or with the aged Percorino Sardo, made from sheep's milk.

The winery prides itself with being as much in tune with nature as possible. Minimal in their intervention, opting for neutral ageing vessels rather than oak, and only adding minimal sulfites to protect the wine. Electrical energy in the winery is only used for de-stemming and for the bottling equipment. The pruning, grape stems and pomace are all returned to the earth. They have also reduced the weight of the bottles and try to use recycled materials for all packaging materials.
- Item #: i_303637Bottle Size: 750mlThis is a typcial blend of Sardinian grapes (Bovale Sardo, Cannonau, and Monica from vines with an average if 100 years of age grwoing in the hilly area of Atzara (Mandrolisai D.O.C.), rising up to 550 meters above sea level. Fradiles ("cousins" in Sardinian dialect) practices a mix of organic and sustainable farming.
Ruby-red colour with pomegranate glints. It is a wine full of character, warm and full- bodied palate, inklings of vanilla and spices, expressing great elegance and marked finesse. The tannins are juicy and silky with a very long finish. Great meat dishes and ripe cheese.
