Turnbull is rooted in the culture and history of the Napa Valley, making wine of exceptional quality in Oakville since 1979. At the core of this independently owned business is their estate-grown fruit, which they carefully tend to from dirt to bottle. Turnbull crafts their wines with integrity and without compromise, and the signature is a wine defined by consistency of balance, structure, and depth.
It starts with the painstaking process of vinifying lot by lot, tasting and evaluating each fermentation for specific attributes and characteristics. Winemaker Peter Heitz weaves together a narrative of place, tasting through and chalking each barrel one by one to determine the final blends. The Turnbull wines are aged in 100% French Oak barrels and rest in bottle for extended time so that they may be enjoyed as they were intended: upon release and over the long term.
This particular bottling of comes from Napa Valley's Calistoga and Oakville Districts. These are two of the more prominent regions of the Napa Valley, and are home to several of the true cult Cabernet producers. Sourced from their acclaimed Amoenus, Fortuna, Leopoldina, and Turnbull Home Vineyards, each vineyard site lends its own voice and signature to the resulting blend. The fingerprint of the famous Amoenus Vineyard shines through in this wine, providing dark cherry tones and mid-palate width; the Fortuna Vineyard fresh red fruits and spice box components; Leopoldina Vineyard provides structure, texture, and dense black fruit; Our Home Vineyard, which surrounds our historic winery, brings fresh red fruit and focus.
Turnbull have owned their vineyards for several decades, which is how they are able to keep their prices reasonable. Let's be honest, sub $50 Napa Cabernet is becoming harder and harder to find, but Turnbull's Napa Valley Cabernet is truly stunning for this price. In fact, respected critic Jeb Dunnuck recently rated this Cabernet at 94-points! He calls it a "killer value" with "outstanding length" and is "impeccably made". The Turnbull Cabernet has been a consistent crowd-favorite here at Hi-Time, so if you want to know what all the hype is about, now is the time to grab yourself a bottle...or two!
JEB DUNNUCK 94 POINTS - "The appellation 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is a killer value that should be snatched up by readers. Ripe black fruits, roasted herbs, chocolate, and some spicy wood define the bouquet and it s full-bodied, has fine tannins, a glossy, layered texture, and outstanding length. It certainly has a modern edge, but is impeccably made. Enjoy bottles over the coming decade."
