"It's a pleasure-bent, gorgeous wine I'd be happy to drink" - Jeb Dunnuck

"This is really juicy and delicious with dark berries and hints of chocolate and hazelnuts" - James Suckling

"Fombrauge is another sweetly fruited, sexy Saint-Emilion with loads of black fruits" - Jeb Dunnuck

We are excited to have one of the greatest values from Saint Emilion back in stock! Chateau Fombrauge has become one of our best-selling wines from the right bank in Bordeaux and it's easy to understand why. It's hard not to like this rich, full-bodied wine filled with lushly textured dark fruits and a touch of toasty cocoa. We have previously featured the 2015, 2016 and 2018 vintages of this wine and the 2019 may be the best yet.

Jeb Dunnuck tasted this wine twice, giving scores of 94+ and 93-95 Points, calling it a "brilliant, sexy and a pleasure-bent, gorgeous wine I'd be happy to drink."

We love Grand Cru Bordeaux and we especially love these wines when they are produced in epic vintages. This is one of those cases when the stars are perfectly aligned and we were able to purchase the 2019 Chateau Fombrauge from Saint Emilion for a great price. This well-regarded Chateau is owned by Bernard Magrez who also owns the famous left bank property, Chateau Pape Clement and La Tour Carnet among others.

Château Fombrauge harvested its first grapes in 1599 and has long been known as having terroir perfect for winemaking. Bernard Magrez purchased the property in 1999 and has only enhanced the legacy of this Grand Cru property by investing in the vineyards and cellar. The grapes are farmed organically, which only adds to the quality and purity of the wine.

One of the secrets to the success of this estate is the winemaker's ability to source grapes from many parcels on the property. This art of blending creates a whole which is greater than the sum of its parts. By taking advantage of the diversity of soils and the vineyard's wide range of exposures, the wine is able to display its full potential and complexity.

The result is a sublime wine and a textbook example of the quality which can be found in Grand Cru Classe from St. Emilion. If you are a fan of full-bodied Bordeaux bursting with plentiful fruit and a long finish, this is for you.

This is an excellent value on a delicious, ready to drink wine at the lowest price in the nation!

JEB DUNNUCK 94+ POINTS - "The 2019 Château Fombrauge is terrific and has a good mix of richness, concentration, and elegance. Giving up notes of mulled ripe cherries, Asian spices, blackberries, tobacco, and cedar pencil on the nose, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a seamless, layered, pure mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and just beautiful overall balance. It's already drinking beautifully today yet will evolve positively for 5-7 years and hold for another 15-20 years. It's another brilliant Saint-Emilion in the vintage. This seemed more modern and polished from barrel but shows a very classic style now from bottle. Best after 2022."

JEB DUNNUCK 93-95 POINTS - "Falling under the Bernard Magrez umbrella, the 2019 Château Fombrauge is another sweetly fruited, sexy Saint-Emilion with loads of black fruits, tobacco leaf, graphite, chocolate, and violet aromas and flavors. It packs tons of fruit on the palate as well as no hard edges, remarkable purity of fruit, silky tannins, and a great finish. It's certainly not for the old-school Claret-only lovers out there, but it’s a pleasure-bent, gorgeous wine I'd be happy to drink. It should shine right out of the gate and keep for two decades."
