The Spätburgunder, also known as Pinot Noir, fruit is hand harvested from an estate owned vineyard in the village of Westhofen. After harvest the fruit is 100% destemmed, which is followed by a native yeast fermentation. The wine is then aged for 16 months in oak barrels ranging between 2-3 years old.
Aromatically the wine has notes of tart, red berry fruits, damp brush and a hint of minerality. On the palate the wine is clearly made in a Burgundian style, with fresh fruit flavors that remain reserved, delightful acidity, and notes of damp earth.
