Renato Vicario has been making liqueurs since he was 6 years old along side his grandmother in the Piedmont of Italy. He and his wife, Janette operate two farms, one in Cortona, Italy, one in Greer, South Carolina and organically cultivate many of the enticing herbs, that create these unique liqueurs. Harvested with scrupulous selection of only the most redolently aromatic parts, the primary mission of VICARIO is to offer an outstanding tasting experience. VICARIO MONK’S SECRET LIQUEUR Monastery brew houses and distillers from different religious orders have been in existence all over Europe since the early Middle-Ages. The Cistercians, Benedictines, and Trappists were part of a network of religious houses which exchanged ideas and procedures but also kept a few secrets. After careful reading of ancient monastic texts, we crafted this liqueur and named it in honor of these hermetic orders. Created with estate grown herbs: Peppermint, French Tarragon as well as many others. Tasting notes: On the nose it is a bouquet of fresh herbs, minty, French Tarragon, and reminiscent of walking through a Middle Eastern spice bazaar. At first sip, the mint explores the mouth, passes through corriander, black pepper, and continues to climb the ladder of tastes with piercingly refreshing menthol and eucalyptus in a room full of burning incense. Fifty Best, Double Gold Award John Barleycorn Award, Best Liqueur Fall 2021 87 Points, The Wine Enthusiast At VICARIO micro-distillery and farm, we create Gin and eighteen different award-winning liqueurs from a considerable compendium of knowledge of the historical, cultural and mythological characteristics of the herbs, spices, nuts and fruits which have been used for many centuries in liqueur making. The spirit is distilled wheat, purchased in the USA, and is Non-GMO. The sugar is Certified Organic raw evaporated cane juice from Columbia , S. A. In some cases we use Certified Organic local honey from the Appalachian Mountains. All the liqueurs and gin contain estate grown herbs and fruits or if it is not possible to grow them, the herbs and spices are sourced USDA Organic, Fair Trade, Wild harvest and Certified Kosher whenever possible.
