Winery's Notes: "Mauka, meaning "towards the mountains" in Hawaiian language (my mother's heritage), is a cuvée that was a long time coming. We've always been fascinated with Bordeaux varietals, but struggled to find the vineyards that gave us a more classical Cabernet profile, which is what we were looking for. However, we began working with some wonderful, cooler sites in the Willow Creek and Adelaida districts that finally gave us what we were looking for! Mauka is a wine that is both substantial in structure yet elegant in character. A dense nose of redcurrant, flint, woodsmoke, and umami notes is met with a dark, penetrating palate of mocha-laced blue and black fruits, bright acidity, and youthful tannins that roll into a long, textured finish."

ANTONIO GALLONI'S VINOUS MEDIA 91 POINTS - "Black raspberries, sage and crushed stones cascade from the 2022 Mauka. The wine is incredibly fresh and lifted in style, with crisp red and black fruits elevated by brisk acidity. Gentle tannic tension remains, with a hint of licorice. The finish is a bit shorter than anticipated yet still impactful."

JEB DUNNUCK 91 POINTS - "More blue fruits, graphite, lead pencil, and leather define the 2022 Mauka. Based on 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Petite Sirah, and 14% Petit Verdot aged 18 months in 60% new French oak, it's medium to full-bodied, with juicy, bright acidity and a lifted, pure, ripe, nicely balanced, structured profile. Give it a year or two and drink through 2034. Drink 2026-2034."
