Why is it so hard to find a great wine at an even better price? That's the question Aaron Jackson, a true Paso Robles native, has spent his life answering. With decades of winemaking experience, he's uncovered hidden, secluded vineyards that other producers don't even know exist. The result? A wine that delivers exceptional quality without the shocking price tag!
Aaron Jackson's lifelong passion for winemaking began in the coastal Pinot Noir vineyards near his hometown of Cayucos. While studying wine at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, he launched his eponymous label, Aaron Petite Sirah, with the first vintage in 2002. His career quickly gained momentum leading him to work with acclaimed wineries in Paso Robles and to earn a master's degree in Oenology from the University of Adelaide. By 2017, he was at the forefront of establishing the San Luis Obispo Coast AVA, which was finally approved in 2021. Now, over two decades in, Aaron continues to champion the unique terroir of his homeland, pushing boundaries and unearthing the full potential of Paso Robles and the San Luis Obispo Coast. This deep commitment to quality and authenticity is the very same principle that guides his new endeavor: making exceptional wine accessible to everyone.
Aaron's second label wine KEOLA is comprised of barrels and lots from the same vineyards that make up his top-tier AARON wines. These barrels are declassified lots or extra barrels that don't find their way into his top cuvees-- but they make their way into KEOLA and are presented as awesome wines for everyday drinking. Comprised mostly of Petite Sirah, Syrah, Grenache and Graciano, it's a rich and savory, with a blue/red fruit profile and notes of grilled meats and sage/underbrush. The palate is luscious and juicy, loaded with flavors of macerated cherries, cocoa powder, toasty oak and licorice.
With KEOLA, you're not just getting a great wine at an incredible price-you're sharing in Aaron's legacy. This wine is a culmination of his deep roots in the region and his decades of hard work, all crafted to be enjoyed and shared. As acclaimed critic Jeb Dunnuck noted, it's a "good value" that is "ripe, round, and supple, with no hard edges." So go ahead, open a bottle and discover the delicious answer to the question he set out to solve all those years ago.
JEB DUNNUCK 92 POINTS - "As always, Aaron Jackson makes a ripe, powerful style of wine that brings ample fruit and texture while staying nicely balanced. Both the 2022s and 2023s are strong here and deliver good value."
"A good value, the 2023 Keola Red offers juicy darker fruits, peppery herbs, and sappy, floral notes. Based on 45% Petite Sirah, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 25% Syrah aged 18 months in 25% new French oak, it's medium to full-bodied, ripe, round, and supple, with no hard edges. This is a pleasure-bent, impeccably made red to drink over the coming 5-6 years. Drink 2025-2031."
