The premium raisin raki from Yeni Raki — the brand created in 1944 by Turkey's state monopoly Tekel, privatized to Mey Içki in 2004, and acquired by Diageo in 2011 in a $2.1 billion deal. Launched in 2011, Âlâ is the only raki made from 100% raisins: carefully selected grapes of the highest quality are sun-dried, fermented, and distilled three times — one more than standard raki — then matured in special oak barrels for a mellower taste. Turkish-grown anise (per the category's geographical indication requirements) lends its intense aroma, and the higher strength delivers a more balanced, long-lasting profile.
Palate: Peppery and spiced with anise and vanilla, with good natural flavor integration and a strong, well-rounded finish.
Serve: The traditional way — with chilled water and ice (the "aslan sütü" louche) — alongside spicy warm starters and main dishes including red meat.
