This mature and lusciously sweet wine has notes of mango, apricot and marmalade. Enjoy chilled with fruit tarts, or ripe cheeses. A delightful step into the past.
Side-note: This winery (Stiftungsweingut Vereinigte Hospitien) in Trier, Germany, owns and operates what is considered the oldest wine cellar in Germany, which was originally built around 330 A.D. as a massive Roman warehouse (horreum) during the reign of Emperor Constantine the Great. The charitable foundation as it exists today was established through an administrative act by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1804, merging various older religious and civic hospitals, and still makes wine to this day. Rather than generating wealth for a private family, the winery is part of a public-law foundation that directly funds local elder and disability care.
