Proprietors Timm and Sharon Crull's vineyards are in the Rutherford area of Napa Valley, a stone's throw from such big names as Quintessa, Heitz, and Sloan, just to give you an idea of how great these vineyards are! While the majority of their Cabernet grapes go do such prestigious wineries as Nickel and Nickel and Frank Family, they do keep a bit for themselves, what what they make is gorgeous!!!
Terraces believes it is their responsibility to build on a 130 year farming legacy. As stewards of the land, their mission is to improve the habitat for native species each year, while reducing the impact of growing premium wine grapes. Awarded the Fish Friendly Farming certificate, they farm sustainably and work diligently to improve their environment each year. Their soils are well-drained, volcanic deposits, a rock formation called Rhyolite. Most of the vineyard blocks have a west exposure providing high radiant value. The warm summer days give way to cool nights with soft mountain breezes. The Terraces is comprised of 14 discreet vineyard blocks, each with different varieties, rootstock, terrain, aspect and microclimates.
The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon from their Estate Quarry Vineyard in Rutherford is always one of the gems in their line up. As most people know, Cab is king in the Napa Valley and this wine is a shining example of why. Grown on the eastern facing hillside vineyards with day long sun exposure, and picked before the 2020 fires broke out,the grapes develop rich, bold dark fruit flavors and well integrated soft tannins that hint at the dusty, volcanic soils on our ranch. The aromas elicit the blackberry, and dark cherry with a subtle undertone of hazelnut and vanilla. 2020 is a stand out vintage and will drink well now or through 2032 and beyond. This gorgeous wine is savory, refreshing, and structured with fine tannins. 341 cases produced.
