We don’t see deals like this very often. Teeling’s limited-edition Wonders of Wood Portuguese Oak normally sells for around $100. Our price is just $39.99!

This is the second release in Teeling’s Wonders of Wood series, created to explore how unusual types of oak influence Irish whiskey. For this edition, Teeling chose virgin Portuguese oak—and this wasn’t simply a quick finish. The whiskey spent its full maturation in those new casks, giving the wood plenty of time to make its mark.

The whiskey is made from 50% malted and 50% unmalted barley, triple distilled at Teeling’s Dublin distillery and bottled without chill filtration at a robust 50% ABV. That traditional pot-still recipe gives the whiskey plenty of texture and spice, while the Portuguese oak adds toasted wood, burnt sugar and a firm tannic edge.

One more thing we like: with every Wonders of Wood release, Teeling helps plant native Irish trees in partnership with the Tree Council of Ireland.

At its usual price, this is an interesting limited release for Irish-whiskey fans. At $39.99, it’s an easy buy. Pick up one to open—and consider grabbing a backup before this batch is gone!

Ripe red berries and pear lead the nose, followed by toasted oak and warm spice. The palate is full of fruit and burnt sugar, with a pleasantly dry grip from the new oak. Honey and lingering spice soften the finish. It drinks beautifully neat, though a few drops of water open it up nicely.
