This 2012 Ernesto Catena Cabernet Sauvignon is a dead ringer for a very high-quality Napa Cab and you know how much those bottles can go for. This wine is offered at a fraction of the price one would pay for a Cabernet-based wine of comparable quality from anywhere else in the world. It is firing on all cylinders and drinking extremely well right now with gorgeous fruit and silky smooth tannins.

Ernesto Catena is the eldest son of Nicolás Catena and a fourth generation winemaker. As you probably know, Catena is perhaps the greatest name in Argentine wine-making and is responsible for elevating the reputation of the region as a whole. Ernesto wanted to focus his efforts on single varietal wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon and this wine clearly shows his ability to do so. The grapes for Siesta come from Ernesto's Vistaflores vineyard in the heart of the Uco Valley in Mendoza. The vineyard is certified organic, yielding high quality fruit which is aged in American and French oak barrels prior to bottling.

ANTONIO GALLONI; VINOUS 91 POINTS - "Deep, bright ruby-red. Cassis and licorice on the nose. A bit sweeter and more obvious on the palate than the Siesta Malbec but with a seductively lush, seamless texture and terrific breadth. The dark berry flavors show a slightly jammy quality and a complicating suggestion of musky lees. Finishes sweet and very long, with noble tannins. This is actually easier to drink right now than the Siesta Malbec but has the stuffing to age.
