A stone's throw from Switzerland and France you will find the village of Weil am Rhein, where brothers Christoph and Johannes Schneider, craft their wines. They were named named our "Newcomers of the Year" in 2022 by Falstaff Magazine in 2022. Here they make Pinot Noir, along with Chasselas, and other varietals such as Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris. From what we have tasted, which is limited, their wines are honest and pure, expressing the fruit and terroir.
The Lorrach village wines grow on the southeastern slopes of the Tullinger at 330 meters above sea level, above the city of Lorrach, at the gateway to the Kleines Wiesental valley and the Black Forest. This cooler location allows the grapes to ripen later. The grapes are 100% hand-picked at reduced yields, using gentle processing, and destemmed, with a minimal use of sulfur, and the least possible impact during cultivation and production. On the palate, is ripe cherry fruit, with a savory saline note, good acid, with notes of sundried tomato. The finish is soft and elegant.
FALSTAFF, PETER MOSER 92 POINTS - "Medium carmine garnet, delicate violet reflections, broad ochre edge lightening. Delicate herbal spice, red wild berries, a hint of lime zest, mineral touch. Medium complexity, pickled cherries, fine tannins, sweet fruit reverberation, already well developed and drinkable."
