STORE NOTES: The 2021 vintage in Austria is outstanding, blending crystal-clear wines from perfect grapes with good extract, and crisp acidity. A glorious autumn brought balanced, elegant white wines with a profound fruitiness and zesty structure, as well as exciting, powerful reds – and this was the case for all of Austria’s wine-growing regions.
As Michael Moosbrugger from Schloss Gobelsburg said, “This is an astonishing vintage. I have been doing this for more than 25 years and this is a vintage I have not seen before, with such a balance between sugar and acid.”
Our wine staff was unanimously impressed by this dancing, lively dry white -- pale yellow in color, light-bodied, and brimming with energy. It is zippy and snappy with notes of green apple, pear, kiwi, lemon, and a hint of flint. It ends softly yet dry, with a taut finish, beckoning you for more. The wine is mild at 12.5% alcohol, and lifts your spirits without bringing you down. This Grüner Veltliner over-delivers in terms of value and elegance, while being just a little bit playful.
