Our Wine of the Month #2 for March 2024, a Portuguese red from the Douro River valley, is made for afternoon grill-outs and dine-in weeknights! In Prats + Symington's "Prazo de Roriz" you'll find a subtle mingling of aromas reminiscent of dark spice (juniper, pepper), tobacco leaf, violet, baked plum, raspberry cordial and hints of cedar and vanilla. It's mid-bodied and velvet-textured, with an elegant structure that energizes with its chalky-textured fine grip, citrusy brightness and crisp dryness to the fruit. The finish is tapered, with those vibrant fruits lightly lingering. Try this at a cool 62F (or just pop it in the fridge for 30 minutes) and pair it with dishes like grilled citrus-marinated pork, beef or lamb skewers, stuffed yellow & red bell peppers and fresh goat cheeses.

Prats + Symington was formed in 1999 as a collaboration between two established winemaking families: the Prats with generations of running famous Bordeaux winemaking chateaux, the Symingtons with vineyards in the Douro River valley and generations of experience making famous Ports. The P+S name represents both of the families' foray into the world of unfortified Douro wines, and their high-end flagship "Chryseia" is already consistently among the top non-port wines in the country! The Prazo de Roriz bottling is a way to get an everyday taste of the region's distinctive style.

Mix of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz (aka Tempranillo), Tinta Barroca and other local varieties

JAMES SUCKLING 93 POINTS - "A juicy, fresh delivery full of red and blue berries, together with wild herbs, stems, hibiscus, white pepper and cocoa powder, extending to the juicy, fluid and linear palate that’s full of energy. Not huge depth here, but it’s mealy and drinkable with a medium-bodied palate, underscored by fruit vibrancy. Delicious now, why hold?"
