#19 WINE SPECTATOR TOP 100 LIST OF 2025
If you peruse through or ask about our fantastic Oregon Pinot Noir area, then you have surely heard us hyping up the Penner Ash Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. This fantastic wine has been a perennial favorite of our staff, and it's even made our own "Top Wine" list in the past. However, the 2022 may have outdone itself, as this wine just made the #14 spot on Wine Spectator's Top 10 of 2025!
In 1998, Lynn and Ron Penner-Ash founded Penner-Ash Wine Cellars in the Northern Willamette Valley's Yamhill-Carlton AVA. Bringing to life their shared vision, through years of hard work and unyielding commitment, the pair built a reputation for lush, layered Pinot Noir, and community leadership throughout the valley. Lynn and Ron built their LIVE-Certified sustainable, gravity-flow winery surrounded by a picturesque 15-acre Estate Vineyard. The pair chose the location, just over the hill from Shea Vineyard, based on years of experience sourcing fruit from across the valley.
In 2018, Lynn handed off the role of winemaker to Kate Ayres, but rest assured that Lynn is still very much active at the winery. Kate is an incredible winemaker in her own right, having worked harvest in New Zealand, Australia, Portugal, and even Hess Collection in Napa Valley before coming back to Oregon.
This wine reflects the region's distinct textures, flavors and terroir, with beautiful elegance and balance. The 2022 vintage explores six sub-AVAs, culminating in a Pinot Noir emblematic of the Willamette Valley, and of the Penner-Ash winemaking style - a textural experience from start to finish. Aged for 10 months in 24% new French oak, this wine possesses inviting aromas of red fruit and tea notes mix with black cherry, ripe Italian plums, and warm raspberry to provide a mid-palate sweetness and density leading to a savory length on the finish.
Wine Spectator, arguably the most noteworthy publication in the wine world, has just released the list of their Top 100 Wines of 2025, and this wine was placed near the top, at #19! There's always a rush to collect wines from this enviable list, and the wines always sell out. So here's a chance to get your hands on a highly-rated Pinot Noir for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, and maybe even a few extra for your cellar!
WINE SPECTATOR 94 POINTS - "Capturing the essence of Willamette Valley, this Pinot is elegantly structured and vibrant with acidity yet plush and polished. Flavors of raspberry and cherry are accented by orange peel, floral tea and spices as this glides along the vibrant finish. Drink now through 2032."
