WINE ADVOCATE 95 POINTS - "Showing lovely balance from an epic vintage, the Paolo Conterno 2021 Barolo Ginestra has more dark cherry and blackberry compared to the Barolo Riva del Bric. The intensity of the fruit comes with some of those metallic-mineral notes that I got in the other wine, but here they are less prominent. A touch of saltiness aligns nicely with the chalky nature of the elegant tannins. This wine needs a few more years to flesh out. Fruit comes from a south-facing slope with 40-year-old plants. Production is 16,000 bottles."
Paolo Conterno founded the Casa della Ginestra in 1886, dedicated to the production of Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto wines. An indefatigable worker with a mind of great intuition, he devoted the most favourable parts of the Ginestra hillside to the growing of the grapes, subdividing them by type, exposure and terrain. Furthermore, he had the foresight to predict the existence of a market of connoisseurs of superior quality products, selling his own wine in wooden kegs and produced by himself in his own cellar. Paolo was succeeded by his son Carlo and his wife Giuseppina. The company was subsequently run by Paolo and Caterina Conterno and today the company is managed by their son Giorgio.
