WINE SPECTATOR 95 POINTS - "This red bursts with raspberry, cherry, rose, eucalyptus and sweet spice flavors. It's sleek and vibrant, with a layer of uplifting tannins that emerge on the persistent aftertaste. Excellent balance and poise, with a mineral-tinged undertone. Best from 2029 through 2048. 1,650 cases made, 750 cases imported."
This is a fairly traditional Barolo that comes from a historic winery. This is their "classic Barolo," but comes from their specific part of Monforte d'Alba: prime plots in the large Bussia vineyard. This already drinks well after a couple hours in the decanter, with a drinkably mid-weight style, an elegant rusticity in flavor and texture, and understated dark fruit tones accented by rich nutty and herbal notes.
The Conterno family has been making wine since the 1700’s and Aldo Conterno is regarded as one of the greatest producers of Piedmont. As a young man, Aldo worked with his brother, Giovanni before striking out on his own in 1969. He developed a reputation as an innovator with a focus on quality and attention to detail and passed this dynamism on to his three sons who now run the business.
