The home vineyard of Nickel & Nickel, Sullenger Vineyard is situated behind the winery in the heart of Oakville and is named for John C. Sullenger, who settled the farmstead in the 1880’s. The vineyard’s 30 acres of clay loam soil are planted exclusively to Cabernet Sauvignon, with 2 rootstocks and a few different clones which each add a unique element to the resulting wine.
JEB DUNNUCK 95 POINTS - "The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon John C. Sullenger comes from a site in Oakville and is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon brought up in 55% new French oak. This deep purple-hued effort offers a textbook Oakville perfume of ripe black fruits, iron, smoked tobacco, and graphite. This carries to a powerful, full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon with a broad, expansive mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a gorgeous finish. It's an impressive effort, if not the finest vintage of this cuvee I've tasted. Enjoy bottles over the coming 15 years."
WINE SPECTATOR 93 POINTS - "This red is nicely packed with black currant, boysenberry and mulberry fruit flavors that drive along steadily, with flashes of singed anise, violet and apple wood filling in on the finish. Emphasizes the fruit, but maintains a pure and detailed feel. Best from 2025 through 2036."
