It's great to see our Orange County locals get into the wine business and succeed, but very few have been able to do it on the level of McPrice Myers. And now, from the guy who got into wine while working at the local TJ's, comes one of the best Syrah values in California!
McPrice Myers has long been a favorite winemaker and friend of ours, because he produces insanely delicious wines at more than reasonable prices. He has become one of the "gurus of Grenache" and a "sultan of Syrah" in California's Central Coast, and this Syrah is going to prove it!
A few years back, our buyer was visiting/touring/tasting around the Paso Robles region when McPrice Myers was rebranding a few of his wines. Two of the wines were just about to be bottled, and Mac invited our buyer to the winery to taste them, and of course our buyer said "yes" (if you've ever had Mac's wines, you know why this was a no brainer). Vis-a-vis their pricepoints, our buyer felt that Mac's "Blue Collar Series" (of which had a Cabernet, Syrah, and Grenache-blend) far exceeded anything else he tasted on that trip! Flash forward to our buyer's most recent Paso trip, and he still feels these wines deliver more value than virtually anything else in the region!
Stack it up against other wines at the same price point and this Syrah wins just about every time. Is that a lofty statement?...not at all. By our accounts, the average price for a Wine Advocate 94-point California Syrah over the last 3 years is about $75.17...and you can get Mac's 94-point Syrah for less than one-third of that price! We feel that this puts this wine in the same league as other notables, such as Booker, Carlisle, Tablas Creek, or most anything from the famed Bien Nacido Vineyard!
And those are some big names in the Syrah world! Wines with this score-to-price ratio typically aren't around for long, so better grab this value while you can!
ROBERT PARKER'S WINE ADVOCATE 94 POINTS - "The recently bottled 2021 Syrah Right Hand Man is youthfully gregarious, with intense aromas of cassis, tar, violet, game meat and cracked pepper. The medium-bodied palate is chalky and fresh with concentrated yet detailed fruits and a long, layered finish. It's very expressive for this price point and easy to drink!"
