Kriz Plavac Mali Kriz 2020
100% Plavac Mali ( a relative of Zinfandel)from 60 year old vines from Denis' home block in Kriz- ~1 hectare. Certified organic. Certified Biodynamic. Native yeast fermented in stainless and open wood. Raised in untoasted Slavonian oak for one year. Unfined/Unfiltered. There is a freshness which comes from the higher altitude terraces of the Kriz holdings. Think wild blackberry, and other wild black fruits- currants, perhaps.
Denis Bogoevic Marusic is the third generation winemaker for this boutique winery located on Croatia's Peljesac Peninsula. The winery has two hectares of vineyards located on very steep hillsides above the Adriatic Sea. The vineyards are contoured and terraced with hand built dry-stone-walls. The grapes are farmed organically (certified) and Denis follows bio-dynamic principles. Fermentation in neutral oak occcurs with the indigenous yeast naturally present on the grapes.
