Not a year goes by where we do not feature a sensational Cabernet Sauvignon from Washington State, and this year is no different. In fact, this is one of the most noteworthy newcomers in quite some time! Winemaker Gianna Ghilarducci was introduced to wine while sitting on her father's knee helping make selections for their family's restaurant, which they lived above. The scent of ingredients drifted upstairs, steeping her in the idea of combining aromas and flavors. When she was downstairs, she watched food and wine create a delicious interlude- a transportation- for friends and strangers. After pursuing a research career, she redirected her skills to wine, and worked at Stag's Leap Wine Cellars. In 2018, winemaker Chris Carpenter selected Gianna as his assistant winemaker, working primarily with Bordeaux varieties for Napa Valley projects including Lokoya, Cardinale, La Jota, and Mt. Brave.
Jett is in southeastern Washington State where the colder, rainier edge of the Walla Walla Valley begins to run up against the Blue Mountains. The vines are farmed organically with intense awareness of the dynamics that form this spare, stirring place.
At Jett, Gianna is taking the forefront, bringing her deep knowledge of Bordeaux varieties and passion for site expression to the dynamic, high-quality vineyards of Washington State, with Carpenter serving as a crucial mentor and Senior Winemaker in this exciting new chapter. This powerful partnership ensures that whether you are enjoying an established Napa icon or exploring their newest Washington venture, you are tasting wines crafted with unparalleled dedication to origin and quality. This wine received a 94-point score from JebDunnuck.com, and it's become one of our newest favorites from the Evergreen State
JEB DUNNUCK 94 POINTS - "A structured wine with beautiful bright cherry and blueberry fruit, the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Walla Walla Valley is lovely and memorable in medium-bodied grip and weight, with youthful grip on the palate. Savory earthiness persists in the form of cedar, tobacco leaf, and sage. This wine should age another 12-15 years."
WINE SPECTATOR 93 POINTS - "Broad-shouldered and deeply structured, with a core of tannins that drives the dark blackberry, bay leaf and espresso flavors that build tension toward firm tannins. Hands off for now. Best from 2027 through 2035. 1,528 cases made."
