85% Nebbiolo and 15% Vespolina
This bottling comes from a gently sloping vineyard with southwestern exposure, in the best producing area called Balsina. In much of Ghemme, the vineyard soils are crumbly, alluvial granite (hard, sandy clusters deposited by rivers) in contrast with other appelations of Upper Piedmont. This is said to contribute to the more fragrant, vibrant, and delicate wines of the area, including Ioppa's "Balsina." The moderately concentrated core, elegantly delivered into the finish, takes this a level above an average Ghemme, or a Colline Novarese.
