BURGHOUND 91 - 93 POINTS - "Firm reduction dominates the fruit and renders the nose impossible to assess. Otherwise, there is very good energy to the intensely mineral-driven middle weight flavors that possess a relatively sleek mouthfeel on the structured, serious and moderately austere finale. This is clearly built-to-age and is going to need at least moderate patience. Excellent. *Sweet Spot, Outstanding!"
WINE ADVOCATE POINTS - "One of the richer, riper wines in the cellar, which will see a full 18 months' élevage, the 2020 Givry 1er Cru Clos du Cras Long exhibits aromas of cherries, berries, licorice, mint and spices. Medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with plenty of powdery tannins, it's a rather muscular red by Lumpp's standards. Last year, I sang the praises of Lumpp's extraordinary 2019 collection, and the 2020s, a touch more concentrated, deeper-pitched and muscular, are a worthy follow up. Pierre and Anne-Cécile Lumpp have now taken the reins, and Anne-Cécile informed me that their response to this extreme vintage was to limit maximum fermentation temperature to 28 degrees Celsius (82 degrees Fahrenheit) and to pursue a longer élevage for the two reds that were the richest and ripest. Everything was picked by August 31, and the Lumpps are now experimenting with intra-row cover crops in some of their holdings."
