DUNN 2013 CABERNET SAUVIGNON HOWELL MOUNTAIN 750mL

Randy Dunn is one of the true icons of the Napa Valley. Since 1979, Randy Dunn has produced powerful, structured wines that can stand the test of time. Several of his Cabernet Sauvignons from the early 1980s are just beginning to show their true nature and these wines are a slap in the face to anybody who says California wines cannot age! Red fruit dominated, aromatic with violets, structured and with hints of earth, his wines are very traditional in style and it is one of the best renditions produced in the valley. His wines are highly sought after by collectors, restaurateurs and enthusiasts alike. Beginning in the early 2000s, he began to make his wines a bit more open-knit and accessible earlier in their lives, but the quality has not dipped one bit! Still a hard wine to find, we were at the right place at the right time and instead of our typical two or three case allocation, we were able to secure enough to put it on our "Top Cab" list this year!

Rich, powerful and yet massively tannic, the 2013 possesses a stunning combination of super-ripe fruit, bright acids and plenty of supporting structure. In the early going, the Howell Mountain is a bit reticent, especially next to the Trailer, but after several hours, the vibrancy of the Howell Mountain bottling dazzles. Dunn's Howell Mountain Cabernet is without question one of the wines of the great 2013 vintage."
