JEB DUNNUCK 94 POINTS - "The 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Barberini is more dense and modern in style, with beautiful cassis and blackberry fruits as well as peppery herbs, white flowers, and spice. Rich, full-bodied, and concentrated on the palate, with a great texture, it’s another powerful yet fresh, balanced wine from this impeccably run estate. Give it a few years. Despite it’s more modern style, it stays firmly planted in the Southern Rhône."

One of the oldest estates in Châteauneuf du Pape and run by the Lançon family, Domaine de la Solitude covers over 80 acres of prime real estate in the la Solitude lieu-dit, which borders the famed La Crau lieu-dit and is in the center of the appellation. The wines today are made by the talented Florent Lançon, and they produce up to five reds and three white Châteauneuf du Papes in any vintage. The estate doesn’t like to submit barrel samples, so I wasn’t able to look at any of the 2020s, but unquestionably, 2019 is a great vintage at this address.

WINE SPECTATOR 94 POINTS - "Seductive, with a mix of boysenberry, raspberry and fig preserve flavors laced with hints of anise, red tea and fruitcake. There's a nice underlying juiciness and a flash of tar through the finish. Rock solid. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre."
