This is no everyday Montepulciano! It comes from around the town of Loreto Aprutino, with well-known neighbors like Valentini, Torre dei Beati and Amorotti. Its ripe, soft black cherry character is tinged by herbs and warm hay, licorice root, and a creamy, toasty accent (fermentation and aging are done only in concrete). The wine reflects the clearer skies of Abruzzo's Loreto Aprutino area through its powerful character and rounded mouthfeel, and adding in the long maceration with the skins, the wine has an extended, lightly unctuous finish. We suggest letting this breathe for half an hour or so.
"The 2019 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Fosso Cancelli is impossible to ignore, showing a blend of cherry and plum sauce, balsamic spices and dried citrus. It's velvety in texture with fleshy red berry fruits and sweet exotic spice. This finishes staining and long, leaving a web of fine tannins to mingle with nuances of blood orange and savory herbs. The complexity here is off the charts. " - Eric Guido, VINOUS MEDIA
"The nose is deeply earthy, with umami aromas of soil, coffee grounds, wild mint and licorice, then brightens with notes of black cherry and blackberry. That tart fruit element intensifies on the palate, while more mint and licorice ensure continued balance and chalky, toothsome tannins fortify a lingering earthiness." — Danielle Callegari, WINE ENTHUSIAST
