Aging for just 6 months in small American-grown oak barrels is enough to complement the naturally rugged and sunny character of the fruit without smothering it. On the nose, there's a flash of ripe fruit, like plums and dark cherry preserves, along with blonde tobacco and dark cocoa (typical of the variety as well as the oak). Dry on the palate, the well-meshed tangy fruit and dark cocoa flavors are delivered with a supple, mid-weight feel. On the finish, dried fruit skin flavors and fine, light grip of tannin accent the juicy fruit pleasantly, neither aggressive nor over-polished. It's a wine that will really find its stride when served cool with your next mixed grill!
