ORGANICALLY FARMED
KERIN O'KEEFE 96 POINTS - "The Brandini 2021 Cerretta opens with heady aromas of menthol, dog rose, cake spice and cedar. Full-bodied and focused, the structured, savory palate delivers ripe Marasca cherry, crushed raspberry, grilled rosemary and licorice alongside firm, refined tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it well balanced."
Brandini is a small estate on Barolo's La Morra ridge, with cooler sites that offer a response to the region's rising heat levels. Purchased by Piero Bagnasco, former CEO of Fontanafredda and a co-founder of Eataly, he saw the future of Barolo through the eyes of his daughters: clean farming and traditional cellar practices, but with a finessed and precise winemaking hand. He passed the torch to his daughters, Giovanna and Serena, in 2018, and they are hitting a great stride with their latest releases!
According to importer, The Source, the Cerretta bottling represents "Serralunga terroir with classic spicier, hearty notes, and stronger tannins and structure, but with the Bagnasco soft touch it exhibits elegance rarely seen from this cru when young."
"Because of the tendency toward firmness and structure, the Cerretta harvest is partially made with destemmed grapes and in another vat, whole bunches. After finishing around three weeks of fermentation, the wine is vatted and the skins pressed. The wines are then blended together and aged for 18-20 months in large Slavonian oak vats without racking until bottling." - THE SOURCE IMPORTS
