Grapes from the 2022 vintage came from the JL Wood Ranch in the Arroyo Seco AVA, located in the heart of Monterey County. Arroyo Seco is one of California’s earliest recognized viticultural areas for Chardonnay with vineyards dating back to the 1970’s. Over millennia, a waterway named “Arroyo Seco” has brought rainwater from the Santa Lucia Mountains and the Los Padres National Forrest to this acclaimed growing region and created a diverse geography featuring rocky soils that’s further enhanced by a cool, windy climate.
Grapes were whole cluster pressed and the juice was cold settled for four days before fermentation at cool temperatures in 90% stainless steel tanks and 10% in two-and threeyear- old French oak barriques followed by partial malolactic fermentation. This wine was aged for five months in 90% stainless steel tanks and 10% in two- and three-year-old French oak barriques.
Pale straw in color with green-gold highlights, this wine has fresh aromas of honeydew melon, fuji apple, and pear accented by notes of iris, white pepper, and river rock. On the palate, this medium-bodied wine features lively, textured flavors of pear and apple mixed with lemon custard, crème fraiche and button mushrooms.
