Domenico Adanti bought the original part of his estate in 1972, in the heart of Umbria's premier wine region of Montefalco. This reserve bottling is mostly composed of central Italy's most noble red variety, Sangiovese, with the Montefalco native star, Sagrantino. It's a special selection of fruit that offers rare value: a delicious, small-production wine that's been aged with care for an extended period of time at this price is a rare treat!
The 2016 vintage imbued the wine with a medium-full body, but mouth-filling generosity in its flavors and feel. There's a bold, freshly-toned edge of fruity, floral and fragrant herbal flavors that has survived barrel and bottle age beautifully. Well-meshed toasty and baking spice notes join the slowly developing aromas of age, like caramelization of the fruit, forest floor, and leather. Aged for 2-1/2 years in oak. Try it with aged cheeses, protein-rich dishes like grilled beef or sausages, or a rich ragu' with fresh pasta.
"Dark and balsamic in the glass, the 2016 Montefalco Rosso Riserva smolders with a moody blend of tobacco, sweet herbs and dried cherries. This floods the palate with velvety textures, nearly fleshy in feel. A cooling acidity works hard to support its opulent weight. Blood orange comes together with red plums over a bed of fine tannins... " - Eric Guido, VINOUS MEDIA
