This special edition explores how alternative oak species influence flavor, aging, and character. For Sweet Oak, Woodford Reserve uses Chinkapin oak — often referred to as “sweet oak” — known for its softer tannins and higher vanillin content, which impart rounder, sweeter notes to the whiskey. Made from Woodford’s classic mash bill of 72% corn, 18% rye, and 10% malted barley, the bourbon is distilled in small batches and aged in barrels with a lighter toast and char than usual. This approach allows the oak’s natural sweetness to shine while maintaining structure and depth. Bottled at 55.2% ABV (110.4 proof), Sweet Oak balances richness and power with elegant nuance — a showcase of innovation rooted in tradition.
