"Vieille Julienne's Jean-Paul Daumen is unquestionably one of the most talented winemakers in all of France" - Jeb Dunnuck
"Jean-Paul Daumen continues to make some of the purest wines in the appellation" - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator
"The Châteauneuf-du-Papes across the board are monumental wines" - Jeb Dunnuck
We are thrilled to be able to offer the extraordinary wines from Domaine de la Vieille Julienne at very compelling prices. At this point, La Vieille Julienne needs little introduction and has become an icon in the most famous appellation from the Southern Rhone, Chateauneuf du Pape. We have long been fans of these wines where 5th generation owner and winemaker Jean-Paul Daumen has propelled this property into the elite of both Chateauneuf and the Rhone Valley. The reviews for these wines reflect the quality of the estate, the winemaking and the excellent 2022 vintage.
Rhone loving critic Jeb Dunnuck adores these wines as the ratings reflect. He gave Les Haut Lieux a score of 98 Points stating, "it's concentrated, has a deep, layered mouthfeel, beautiful mid-palate density, and one hell of a great finish. It's one of the wines of the vintage."
Les Haut Lieux is a single plot on the highest part of this north-facing hill, just below the famous Mont Redon plateau. Here you find sandy limestone soils covered with a good amount of the galets stones. This site is the last to be picked as it is the highest in elevation an includes a good dose of the late-ripening, Mouvedre. This wine has more structure and is certainly capable of cellaring.
Farming Biodynamically, Daumen refuses to use herbicides, fungicides, fertilizers and chemical products. He uses indigenous yeasts only and his wines certainly reflect the purity of his approach. All the wines are certified biodynamic by Demeter.
Make no mistake, these delicious Chateauneuf du Papes from Vieille Julienne are world class highly collectible, which would make excellent additions to your cellar.
We are thrilled to offer all of these wines at the lowest prices in the country.
JEB DUNNUCK 98 POINTS - "The 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape Les Hauts-Lieux is based on 65% Grenache, 20% Mourvèdre, 10% Cinsault, and the rest Counoise and comes from vines just in front of the estate as well as the slightly higher elevation Brusquière plateau, which is a later, cooler terroir. Its deep ruby hue is followed by a killer nose of ripe red and black fruits, peppery herbs, leather, and graphite. With medium to full-bodied richness, it's concentrated, has a deep, layered mouthfeel, beautiful mid-palate density, and one hell of a great finish. It's one of the wines of the vintage."
