This new cuvée from Maison Verget comes from very old vines planted in the 1950s on excellent clay-limestone soil, with relatively deep soil, at the entrance to the village of Fuissé. Age of the vines, nature of the soils and exceptional sunshine in the summer of 2018.
Vinified and aged exclusively in barrels (about a quarter of which are new wood), this Pouilly-Fuissé offers an absolutely irresistible fruity density, perfectly balanced by a catchy and stimulating chalky frame. On the nose as on the palate, we enjoy the flavors of fresh fruit that it exhales, between Granny apple, white peach and mirabelle plum, mixed with a floral dimension (acacia, vine flower) which gives a more airy and refined profile. The minerality is very present, taking on in turn a maritime dimension (shellfish), then smoke, to finish in a terpene register that would almost take us to the side of some great Alsatian or Moselle Rieslings... The balance in the mouth between an impressive concentration and a splendid acidity which structures and sets in motion this ample and deep matter is admirable. And what a finish, both full of fruit, energized by nuances of citrus essence and stretching on a rocky register! This sensual and powerful Pouilly-Fuissé Vers la Croix is undoubtedly a great wine, with aging potential of 10 years: essential in any good cellar.
