Based in Trittenheim, Weingut Unterlind is run by Heiner Bollig - Cellar Master at the famed Egon Muller estate in the Saar - along with his wife Veronika Bollig-Lintner. Their own vineyards include some of the Middle Mosel's most celebrated sites: Brauneberger Juffer, Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr, Trittenheimer Apotheke, and Leiwener Laurentiuslay.
The vineyard: Laurentiuslay is a VDP.GROSSE LAGE (VDP Grand Cru) site - an extremely steep slope characterized by gray Devonian slate, planted with 100-year-old Riesling vines, trained on traditional single poles. It's also one of the vineyards worked by top winemaker Nik Weis, so it has a strong reputation in Mosel circles.
Winemaking: Grapes are hand-picked, gently pressed in a classic basket press, and spontaneously fermented in stainless steel tanks in a cool cellar.
Tasting profile: This is a light and airy Riesling with a very clean aromatic bouquet of white flowers combined with notes of saffron, mingling with ripe peach and apricot. Its gossamer sweetness is tantalizing.
