The Turley Zinfandels are among the hardest to secure in California, but due to our long-standing relationships with the winery and their distributor, we are thrilled to have finally received enough to list this in our "Top Wine" list! Though the vast majority of the Turley wines are single vineyard designates, Juvenile is actually composed of a variety of young vines that have been replanted in several of their most heralded old vine sites. The vines that make up Juvenile range in age from about 6-25 years, and they pull from 27 of their best vineyards across California, including Hayne, Ueberroth, Pesenti, Salvador, Vineyard 101, Fredericks and Kirschenmann. The new vines are tagged when replanted, so as not to mix the brand-new vine with its much older neighbors, then these young vines are picked separately and make a distinct wine.
Most of the vineyards used by Turley are farmed organically and/or dry-farmed. By farming organically and focusing on old vine vineyards of these varieties, Turley aims to both create and preserve California's unique winemaking culture. Not only is this one of the more affordable Turley Zinfandels, but it has also received wonderful praise from the critics! Wine Spectator rated this at 92 points, and Antonio Galloni rated this at 90 points. Eminently drinkable now, with classic Juvenile texture, this is a wine that is sure to sell out!
WINE SPECTATOR 92 POINTS! - "Brimming with verve, this Zin offers fresh flavors of black cherry, raspberry, briar patch and savory pepper that end with snappy tannins. Drink now through 2033."
ANTONIO GALLONI 90 POINTS! - "The 2023 Zinfandel Juvenile is bold, juicy and super-expressive, all of which make it a fine choice for drinking now and over the next handful of years. Bright red/purplish fruit, lavender, spice and new leather build nicely in this tasty, mid-weight offering from Turley."
