We previously featured the 2015 and 2019 vintages, which were a big hit with our customers. The 2020 is a step up, but also more fruit centric in its youth.
This classic right-bank blend boasts two scores at 96 Points! Jeb Dunnuck scored this 96 Points, saying it, "Showed spectacularly well" and offers a "full-bodied, incredibly pure, balanced style."
James Suckling loved this as well, awarding it 96 Points noting, "So much black fruit, black walnuts, blueberries, wet earth, black truffles and some graphite."
Château Tour Saint Christophe is located in Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes in the appellation of Saint-Émilion. The vineyard overlooks beautiful centuries-old dry stone terraces on a clay-limestone terroir. The chateau was acquired by Peter Kwok and his daughter Karen in 2012. Together, they have taken great pains to restore the historic vineyards. The redesigned and renovated cellars also reflect their ongoing commitment to quality.
The vineyard, with vines of an average age of thirty years is orientated South-Southwest and benefits from an ideal exposure to the sun and has perfect natural drainage conditions. The grapes are hand-harvested block by block at optimum ripeness and these small parcels are vinified separately before blending. The wines are then aged in French oak barrels for 15 to 18 months, with 30% to 40% new.
All of the changes initiated over the last decade have highlighted the quality of the terroir and allowed for the fullest expression of this property. The regulating authority from Saint Emilion recognized the consistently delicious wines being produced and upgraded Tour Saint Christophe to Grand Cru Classé in 2022.
Château Tour Saint Christophe is a full-bodied, intensely fruited wow wine and total blockbuster that should not be missed! This is delicious now, but will age gracefully for years. We only have a limited amount available, when it's gone it's gone!
JEB DUNNUCK 96 POINTS - "The 2020 Château Tour Saint Christophe showed spectacularly well, and based off past vintages, this shouldn't surprise anyone. Based on 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc raised in 40% new barrels (the balance is in second- and third-fill oak), it offers a full-bodied, incredibly pure, balanced style revealing subtle oak, terrific darker, almost blue fruits, lots of chocolate, leafy herb and mineral nuances, and gorgeous tannins. It's worth pointing out that this will be the last vintage made by the talented Jérôme Aguirre. This terrific Saint-Emilion will evolve for two decades."
JAMES SUCKLING 96 POIINTS - "So much black fruit, black walnuts, blueberries, wet earth, black truffles and some graphite. Medium to full body with lots of tension and focus. It runs very long with a salty undertone and some bitter, burnt lemon. Yet ever so subtle and refined."
