History,

Douglas McGibbon & Company is a family owned independent bottling company. Douglas McGibbon arrived on the Scottish mainland, Glasgow, from the Isle of Islay in the late 1890s. It was his granddaughter's husband, Morag McGibbon, who started the eponymous business in 1947.

This edition comes from the Port Ellen Distillery . The whiskey was distilled in the winter of 1982 , and bottled 18 years later, in 2001, still in the winter. The Port Ellen Distillery is located in Port Ellen on the island of Islay , Scotland . Port Ellen was established as a malt mill in 1825, then developed as a distillery under John Ramsay from 1833 to 1892. The warehouses he built still exist and are listed buildings. The distillery was acquired by Distillers Company Limited in 1925, closed in 1930 and rebuilt in 1966-67. It continued to produce throughout the 1970s and was closed in 1983 , although stocks of its Single Malt whiskey were still available.
