Tenuta Biserno's flagship red is a force to be reckoned with! More approachable than some other super-Tuscans that cost more, but still delivering an immense amount of pleasure for both New World wine drinkers and Old World wine drinkers who love the richenss of the Mediterranean rim! This is enjoyable already, especially with just an hour or so in the decanter, but will mellow out over the years if you like to cellar your wine!
WINE ADVOCATE 96 POINTS - "The 2020 Biserno is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and a small part Petit Verdot. This is an enriched and profound wine with round tones of black fruit, spice, cured tobacco and tarry smoke. Biserno is shapely and generous with a full-bodied approach that is accented by crushed stone and pencil shaving. You get a lot of intensity and texture with this opulent, cellar-worthy wine."
"Biserno is unique - a dream for any winemaker. Reuniting the names Lodovico and Piero, the namesakes of the original founders of the Antinori Company, I am happy and honored to realize my last winemaking project." - Lodovico Antinori
Marchese Lodovico Antinori, creator of two of Italy's most famed wines, Ornellaia and Masseto, conceived of his new project with these benchmarks in mind. He discovered the special Tenuta di Biserno terroir, situated in the Upper Maremma, with his long-time friend and wine adviser, Michel Rolland. He is joined by his brother, Marchese Piero Antinori, President of world renowned Antinori Wines.
A PERFECT TERROIR: On Upper Maremma's famous coast, Tenuta di Biserno lies among the hills of the village Bibbona, bordering the famed Bolgheri DOC. Representing some of Italy's most prized terroir, Upper Maremma combines unique soil compisition with the cooling influence of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The vineyards of Bibbona and Bolgheri meet each other, as Lodovico observes, “very similar to Saint Emilion and Pomerol.”
Lodovico learned about this parcel of land from Dante Scanavino, his then-General Manager at Ornellaia. Lodovico surveyed the land and was struck by the similarities between this terroir and that of Masseto. But beyond that, what Lodovico recognized here were other elements in the soil that immediately inspired him to plant Cabernet Franc.
