This is undoubtedly one of the greatest values in the wine world. This affordable offering from Tapiz over-delivers with a delicious Malbec at a price that made us sit up and take notice. We have enjoyed the wines produced by Tapiz for quite some time. In fact, many of you have enjoyed their offerings including the popular premium-priced Black Tears from this terrific producer.
Tapiz is one of the most renowned and awarded Argentine wineries. Winemaker Fabian Valenzuela was joined by Jean Claude Berrouet in 2012. Berrouet is the respected winemaker from legendary Chateau Petrus, having presided over 44 vintages at this revered Bordeaux winery. Berrouet chose to consult with Tapiz exclusively in Argentina.
To celebrate the addition of Jean Claude, Tapiz created a new “Alta Collection” line of wines. The “Alta Collection” fruit comes solely from Tapiz's sustainably-farmed estate San Pablo vineyard in the Uco Valley. San Pablo is one of the highest altitude vineyards in Mendoza (4,600 feet above sea level). This extreme altitude provides warm days which impart concentration to the grapes and cold nights which give natural acidity.
The pairing of high quality fruit with winemaking expertise has resulted in a fantastic wine. The incredible pricing is icing on the cake and makes this Malbec an amazing value. Enjoy!
JAMES SUCKLING 94 POINTS - "Very floral and fruity with spice, walnut and perfume character. Medium to full body, refined, and polished. Lovely balanced and sophistication. Drink now."
