PRACTICING ORGANIC FARMING
Tamerán is the name of the winery in Gran Canaria from footballer David Silva, who recently retired from the sport. Jonatan García from Suertes del Marqués in Tenerife is in charge of the wines. 2020 was the first vintage, and they finished building the winery in 2021. Silva has six hectares of vines in production and a further 1.5 of new plantings in the village of San Bartolomé de Tirajana. In 2022, they bought some grapes from the zone and also from the north of the island, in the higher-altitude village of San Mateo. They harvest early (they are in the south of the island, a warmer zone), and they block malolactic. Production is 16,000 bottles.
"From vines in the south part of the island, the 2022 Verdello (which is the same grape as in Madeira and the Azores) also contains some 10% Albillo Criollo (a cross between Verdello and Listán Blanco). It fermented in 500-liter oak barrels and stainless steel and matured with lees for 10 months. This is aromatic and has a mellow palate with moderate acidity. 3,330 bottles produced.
