#6 on Hi-Time's Top Red Wines from North America
Siduri's winemaker is Matt Revelette, whose illustrious resume shows the depths of his oenological talents. After falling in love with wine by working in vineyards during his summers as a college student, he obtained his Masters in Viticulture and Enology from Fresno State, where he published research on grape and wine tannins. His extensive experience includes some of the greats in the wine industry, including Williams Selyem, Kosta Browne, Quintessa and Mending Wall (where Schrader, Maybach and Pulido Walker, amongst others, were made by Thomas Rivers Brown).
In the Santa Lucia Highlands, there are two families whose vineyards are, without argument, the absolute best of the region… and this wine comes from one of those family vineyards. Planted in 1996 by Gary and Rosella Franscioni in the 'sweet-spot' of the Central Santa Lucia Highlands, Rosella's Vineyard sits atop a southeast facing alluvial bench, often laced with fog. Arroyo Seco Sandy Loam soils provide excellent drainage, encouraging deep vine roots that add complexity in the wines. When our staff tasted this wine, we were wowed that the rich, full-bodied personality of this Pinot Noir was complimented by freshness, vibrancy and floral aromatics. It's the best of both worlds and even Wine Advocate critic Erin Brooks scored this at 95 points!
ROBERT PARKER'S WINE ADVOCATE 95 POINTS - "The 2021 Pinot Noir Rosella's Vineyard was matured for 10 months in 40% new French oak. It has slowly unfurling aromas of wild berries, Christmas spices, potpourri and mossy bark. The medium-bodied palate offers concentrated layers of spicy fruit framed by silky tannins and mouthwatering acidity, and it has a long, dynamic finish. 489 cases were made."
JEB DUNNUCK 93 POINTS - "From one of the great sites in the Santa Lucia Highlands, the 2021 Pinot Noir Rosella's Vineyard has a bright, juicy, medium-bodied style as well as perfumed red fruits (strawberries, cherries), lots of floral nuances, nicely integrated acidity, and fine tannins. This cuvée was completely destemmed and was brought up in 40% new French oak. I love its purity and elegance."
