Siduri is one of our more popular domestic Pinot Noirs in the store, as they show rich, vibrant fruit profiles without going over the top. Winemaker Adam Lee is known for his California Pinot Noir offerings, over the years, he's been able to "get the jump" on vineyards before they became well-known. Just look at the fact that Siduri has made fruit from Pisoni, Rosella's, Garys', John Sebastiano, and others. Many wineries that don't own their own vineyards can't even gain access to just one of these places, but Adam has fruit from all of them! Why is that?...Because these vineyard owners know that Adam will make noteworthy wines that showcase the best these vines have to offer, and the proof, as they say, is in the pudding. Or, maybe, the glass.
The Van der Kamp Vineyard has been in the Siduri portfolio since 1996, making it one of their longest standing sources. On the Western side of Sonoma Mountain, the vines are directly in the line of the fog and winds coming in off the Pacific Ocean and in through the Petaluma Gap. This allows the average harvest dates at Van der Kamp to be virtually the same as those on the far Sonoma Coast. The Van der Kamp family practices natural farming and non-invasive techniques, and with current plantings from 1952, this is one of California's oldest Pinot Noir Vineyards.
When our staff tasted this, we were wowed that the rich, full-bodied personality of this Pinot Noir was complimented by freshness, vibrancy, and floral aromatics. It's the best of both worlds, and even noted critic Jeb Dunnuck scored this at 94 points! If you want a fuller-bodied Pinot Noir then look no further!
JEB DUNNUCK 94 POINTS - "One of the standouts in the lineup is the 2017 Pinot Noir Van der Kamp Vineyard, which comes from a site in the Sonoma Mountain AVA and was completely destemmed and brought up in 45% new French oak. Candied violets, cherries, mulberries, leather, and flowery incense notes all emerge from this medium to full-bodied, textured, sexy Pinot Noir that’s already hard to resist. It should evolve nicely for 7-8 years."
