ROTY 2023 MAZY CHAMBERTIN

JOHN GILMAN 96 POINTS: "I had always known that the vines in the Rotys’ parcel of Charmes-Chambertin were absolutely ancient, but I had no idea that this also applied to their vines in Mazy, which were planted in 1919! These one hundred and four year-old vines have produced a masterpiece in the 2023 vintage, delivering an aromatic constellation of black cherries, dark berries, cassis, grilled meats, that lovely touch of signature Mazy sweet vegetality (that I can never accurately describe), a complex base of dark soil tones, a hint of anise and plenty of smoky new oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, precise and bottomless in its depth of old vine fruit at the core, with great soil signature and grip, ripe, firm and perfectly integrated tannins and great balance on the very, very long and complex finish. A stunning young wine, but patience will be required!"
