ORGANICALLY FARMED
"Roagna's 2020 Barbera d'Alba is soft, pliant and inviting. Crushed rose petal, bright red-toned fruit, blood orange, cedar and spice all meld together. Soft, silky contours wrap it all together in style. The 2020 was aged in cask, one that was new, and there is the slightest hint of oak in the wine. This is a bit unusual for the house style but works well here." - Antonio Galloni, VINOUS MEDIA
Roagna have been winemakers in the village of Barbaresco since the mid 1800’s. Roagna like to describe their style as both traditional and innovative. One of their core principles is maintaining the biodiversity of their vineyards and surroundings; they do not use pesticides, herbicides, nor fertilizers. Only large, older barrels are used for aging.
Their Barbera d'Alba is produced from the Pira vineyard in the comune of Castiglione Falletto.
While they use spontaneous fermentation, it's via a pied de cuve. This involves a small batch fermentation to ensure quality yeast strains are dominating, which is then added to the rest of the grape must. Unfiltered & unfined.
