WINE ADVOCATE 97+ POINTS - "The Roagna 2019 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione comes from a 0.49-hectare parcel that was purchased in 2016. The vineyards lay adjacent to Pira, thus opening the possibility for the Roagna family to buy this land. The vines average 50 years old, and the plan is to eventually have this wine join the Vecchie Viti series. Because this is only the fourth year of production, that remains a goal for the future. This distinctive site, one of my personal favorites in the Barolo appellation, always delivers special sharpness and linear focus. You get that here along with a very long finish. The wine has muscle, but it also shows supple roundness and ample fruit weight. This is a wine to watch."

Structured and elegant, the vibrant palate delivers red cherry, star anise, orange zest, truffle and crushed mint accompanied by firm, refined tannins. Bright acidity gives it racy tension. "The fine estate of Roagna has long roots in the commune of Barbaresco, having been started very early in the twentieth century by Vincenzo Roagna... Today the property is run by Luca Roagna, the fifth generation of the family... The style of the estate’s wines has been carefully passed down through all five generations of Roagna family, with the wines made in a very traditional and classic style. These are deep, complex and structured wines that are built to age and handsomely reward cellaring... fermentation still includes a full sixty day maceration before aging in large, Slavonian oak botti for anywhere from three to five years (depending on the quality of the vintage) prior to bottling. The wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered, and often the estate will also hold back the wines for several years of further bottle aging prior to release." - BEAUNE IMPORTS
