KERIN O'KEEFE 99 POINTS - "Hailing from vines that are 90-100 years old, the compelling 2019 Montefico Vecchie Viti shows great structure and depth. It opens with aromas of forest berry, spice, underbrush and citrus while the vibrant palate is full of flavor, presenting layers of wild strawberry, cranberry, orange zest and licorice set against a firm backbone of well-integrated tannins. Vibrant acidity keeps it balanced. Give this time to fully develop. Drink 2034–2059. Abv: 14% Kerin O'Keefe October 2024 ©kerinokeefe.com"

VINOUS 97 POINTS - "The 2019 Barbaresco Montefico Vecchie Viti is a heady, explosive wine. Bright, focused and energetic, the 2019 screams with Montefico character. Crushed rocks, slate, mint, white pepper, dried cherry and chalk are some of the many notes that inform this taut, vibrant Barbaresco. Clean mineral notes extend the finish effortlessly. The Montefico is often one of my favorites in the range. The 2019 is truly special. What a wine!" - Antonio Galloni

WINE ADVOCATE 97 POINTS - "The 2019 Barbaresco Montefico Vecchie Viti comes from a parcel that was given as a dowry gift in 1929, thus changing hands to the Roagna family. It measures 0.24 hectares and production remains very limited at 1,222 bottles. Montefico tends to be more aromatic compared to Asili, and it reveals many layers of complexity that change rapidly and with fluidity. It starts off with a floral signature of roses and violets and then cedes to redcurrant and spicy licorice. The quality of the firm tannins in 2019 is terrific, and the acidity is spot on. There are elegant chalky sensations to close on this cellar-worthy Nebbiolo."

PRACTICING ORGANIC FARMING

"The fine estate of Roagna has long roots in the commune of Barbaresco, having been started very early in the twentieth century by Vincenzo Roagna... Today the property is run by Luca Roagna, the fifth generation of the family... The style of the estate’s wines has been carefully passed down through all five generations of Roagna family, with the wines made in a very traditional and classic style. These are deep, complex and structured wines that are built to age and handsomely reward cellaring... fermentation still includes a full sixty day maceration before aging in large, Slavonian oak botti for anywhere from three to five years (depending on the quality of the vintage) prior to bottling. The wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered, and often the estate will also hold back the wines for several years of further bottle aging prior to release." - BEAUNE IMPORTS
