In 1920’s Canada the young immigrant Filumena Lassandro worked for “Emperor Pic”, a colorful rum runner smuggling bottles through Alberta’s Crowsnest Pass. A fateful encounter led to a fatal shooting of a policeman and Filumena confessed, believing that a woman would receive leniency from the courts. Despite a worldwide outcry for clemency Filumena was hanged in 1923, the only woman ever to be executed in Alberta. THE RUM: Calgary’s Romero Distillery produces uniquely Canadian rum with Canadian molasses, glacier fed water and the extreme “Chinook” winds subjecting their casks to massive swings in pressure and temperature. This special bottling received extra-long aging in genuine Jerez sherry casks resulting in a succulently rich and silky rum with notes of dark fruit, burnt caramel and soft tannins. AGING: Woodford bourbon cask & 3+ yrs in Jerez Oloroso sherry cask STRENGTH: 58.1% ABV, add water lightly PRODUCTION: Molasses in Pot/Column Still, No Additives ORIGINAL ART BY: Mira Hsu & Razigla. CHARITY: 5% of profits from this bottle goes to the Calgary Homeless Foundation
