The Produttori del Barbaresco name is well-known to wine lovers around the world, their single-vineyard riserva wines being sought after by collectors and casual drinkers alike. Their riservas are more concentrated than the average Barbaresco, and each vintage and vineyard offers a unique expression of the historic region’s sleek, energetic, fragrant Nebbiolos. The 2021 vintage is especially exciting for the captivating convergence of aromatic intensity, concentration, and structure that you get. Today, we’re highlighting the Pajé vineyard bottling, since James Suckling recently named it as his #10 Top Wine of Italy for 2026 with a score of 98 points! Get a few while they’re here!
The Barbaresco wine region was essentially created in 1894 by a cooperative of family growers who wanted to support their hometown rather than sell their grapes to nearby Barolo. They dissolved during the fascist years, and it wasn’t until 1958 that a priest, Don Fiorino Marengo, organized the new, larger Produttori del Barbaresco cooperative winery. His goal was to lift families out of their isolation and poverty in the post-war countryside, and what a success that was!
JAMES SUCKLING 98 POINTS - "Stunning depth on the nose of this complex red, showing dried violets and roses, intoxicating balsamic, strawberries, cherries and a distinctive leafy lightness with a whiff of mint. Elegant on the attack, with ripe, velvety and tightly knit tannins. Extracted and savory with refreshing acidity, showing stony minerality and licorice in the very persistent, multilayered finish. March 2026 release. It will last for decades." - Aldo Fiordelli
