JAMES SUCKLING 96 POINTS - "The aromas of iodine and oyster shell really come through together with black cherries and dark brambleberries. Medium body with firm and racy tannins that run the length of the wine. March 2025 release. Drinkable but even better in three or four years."

KERIN O'KEEFE 94 POINTS - "Blue flower, dark culinary spice and a whiff of eucalyptus provide the great aromatics on the lovely 2021 Barbaresco Pio. Linear and refined, the elegantly structured palate features crunchy red cherry, blood orange, star anise accompanied by taut, fine-grained tannins. Bright acidity keeps it lifted and balanced. Drink 2030–2036. Abv: 14.5% Kerin O’Keefe February 2025 ©kerinokeefe.com"

WINE ADVOCATE 94 POINTS = "The Pio Cesare 2021 Barbaresco presents a solid core of dark fruit, cherry and redcurrant, with spice and dried rose petal elegantly layered in at the back. This wine paints an accurate picture of a classic vintage with nicely ripened fruit and firm tannins. It sees 30 months in oak, mostly in large oak casks and some neutral barrique."

Approachable now with a couple hours in the decanter, but better starting around 2028-2030.
